Department for young patients with varying severity diseases and injuries

hospitalization in Reuth medical rehabilitation centerThe general rehabilitation department was created as part of the Faculty of medicine at Tel Aviv University to help patients recovering after various diseases and injuries. The department serves as a facility where Israeli doctors receive training and specialize in the rehabilitation field.

Patients in this department are people with diseases and injuries of varying severity. The department staff assists patients to regain lost functions, to find their place in the community and to improve their quality of life, despite their disabilities. The department offers personalized rehabilitation programs based on the health condition, needs and abilities of the patient:

Neurologic rehabilitation – after stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, diseases and injuries of central and peripheral nervous system; multiple sclerosis, degenerative diseases, etc.

Such patients are characterized by loss of movement, difficulty with speech and writing, cognitive impairment, memory loss, etc. The rehabilitation process is intended to restore their physical and cognitive functions as much as possible.

Orthopedic rehabilitation – after amputations, fractures, joint replacements etc. Orthopedic rehabilitation includes all types of injuries that cause movement limitation, such as bone, muscle, tendon, ligament and joint injuries. It also includes recovering from burns and chronic wounds. The rehabilitation process is intended to restore the maximum mobility of the patient.

Respiratory rehabilitation – deals with patients suffering from different injuries and lung diseases which necessitate artificial lung ventilation. The rehabilitation process is intended to gradually wean the patient from the respiratory system and to restore independent breathing function.

The rehabilitation therapy program is planned individually, taking into account the needs and abilities of the patient, and includes a wide range of procedures:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Rehabilitation psychology
  • Special diet
  • Rehabilitation sexology
  • Procedures of alternative medicine
  • Other types of therapy, along with daily medical supervision and nursing care

Neurologic rehabilitation includes Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training for recovering self-sufficient skills for daily functioning, speech therapy, physiotherapy to improve muscle strength and coordination, as well as occupational therapy to improve cognitive impairment and to regain fine motor skills.

Orthopedic rehabilitation focuses on physiotherapy and aims to improve motoric abilities. In order to reduce muscle spasm, pain, and muscle tension some alternative medicine procedures are included as well.

Respiratory rehabilitation includes exercises to strengthen the respiratory muscles, special respiratory physiotherapy and other activities, all of which are aimed at helping the patient regain independent breathing function.

In addition to therapeutic procedures, Reuth patients take part in other therapeutic activates that improve their quality of life and positively affect their mood, such as: therapeutic horticulture, art therapy, computer sessions and many other activities.
